TCH Performing Dental Surgery

Oct 26, 2009

Tahlequah City Hospital is now performing dental surgery in conjunction with Frank Sommer, D.D.S. and Andrew Walker, D.D.S. This new service eliminates the need for Cherokee county residents to travel long distances to receive quality care.

“Accessing dental surgical services is much easier and convenient; rather than traveling to a metropolitan center for dental procedures, our community can now access excellent surgical facilities staffed with highly qualified physicians and nurses, use providers familiar to them, and take advantage of the convenience realized by having their surgery performed here at Tahlequah City Hospital,” said Brian Hail, Assistant VP of Emergency and Surgical Services at TCH.

Planning and preparation for this new service began in early 2009. Surgeries officially began in September 2009.

“When we offer a new service at TCH, we strive to do it with excellence,” said TCH President and CEO, Brian Woodliff. “Intense planning and partnering with experienced anesthesia, medical and dental physicians is part of what makes this new service a success.”

The dental surgeries currently performed at TCH are predominantly dental rehabilitation procedures in which cavities are filled, crowns applied and general dental care is provided.

“Due to the success we’ve experienced with dental surgery, we are in the process of adding additional services to compliment our dental surgery including oromaxillary facial surgery,” said Hail. “We are pleased to offer local access to this dental service and appreciate the expertise lent us by providers from Cherokee Nation W.W. Hastings Hospital who already has a well established dental program at their hospital.”
